APRIL FOOLS AUTOTEST - 14th April 2007 Report:
Siôn Matthews (below right) continues to be the boy to beat, the 16-year old taking a 9 second victory on round 3 of C&A MC's MAS challenge autotest & PCA which was held on the tarmac roads of the Anglesey Showground over 2 test sites. All the competitors (below-Griff Parry, Siôn Matthews, Eifion Jones and Endaf Jones) got to "walk the course" before the kick-off at 1pm.
Of the 31 entries, it was newcomer Mark Hughes (below left) who intially took the lead, ending the day 0.3 seconds ahead of Siôn over the six runs at the short test site down the side of the main buildings. However, 7 line faults over the six long road tests dropped him to 3rd at the end, behind Ryan Cardwell, also new to these events, in an Mi16V 205Gti (below right).

3.5 seconds was all that seperated the top two crews in the PCA section, the winner, Waynne Allman used his 205 Gti (below left), whilst runner-up, Endaf Jones with Eifion Jones sitting alongside had to borrow Siôns Nova when Endafs Metro cut out driving off the trailer, and refused to re-start.

The drama's of the day started off with hot favourite at this venue, Griff Parry pulling off the road on test 2. He is here pictured (below left) changing both drive shafts, before realising it was actually the diff at fault. Arwel Williams / Tim Shaw had a bit of clutch slip, and then overheating problems in the Astra Gte, while Mark Bailey had body damage when he rolled the Red Nova onto its roof(below right).

Carey Lindley (below left) almost did the same stunt as Mark Bailey, but turned into the slide and kept the Nova on four wheels. Mark Allman used the Ibiza Cuora Sport for the first time, and won the Large engined class with the 2.0 ltr car(below right).

There were just a couple of RWD cars out, Mark Campbell squeezing into the top 10 with his Mk2 Escort (below left). It's not often you see a BMW on an autotest, so it was exciting to watch Gavin Ryan (below right) on his way to 20th.

A big thanks to the venue owners for allowing the use of the Showground, and to organsiers and marshals: Dewi Hughes, Lynne Edwards, Tex, Paul Cross, Ieuan Roberts, Gruff Thomas, Arwel Thomas, Darren and son, Sion Môn and anyone else I missed. Thanks.

Mark Bailey had a new Nova for this event after rolling on the last event, and despite a very sick knocking engine managed to pick up a 1st in class award. The other class winner was Kevin Griffiths in a Nova saloon, finding the deisel front shocks worked well over the loose surface.
